My name is Stephen Ross. I’m an award-winning writer, and sometimes a musician, and sometimes a film maker. This website is my “Live” space on the internet; it’s my playroom and place to put stuff. Think of it as a living filing cabinet.

My short stories and novelettes have appeared in the Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, the Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, several Mystery Writers of America anthologies, and many other magazines, anthologies, and publications. I’ve been nominated for an Edgar Award (2011, Best Short Story), a Derringer Award (2011, Best Novelette), a Thriller Award (2015, Best Short Story), I was a 2010 Ellery Queen Readers’ Award Finalist, and in 2018 I won the Rose Trophy for Best Short Story from the Hibiscus Coast Writers Inc.

I’m a member of the Mystery Writers of America (MWA) and the International Thriller Writers Organization.

Music is my hobby. I started playing the piano when I was 10, and the electric guitar when I was 17. I’ve been in a bunch of bands (trust me, you would not have heard of any of them). I’ve written tunes/scores for bands, radio, theater productions and rock musicals, student, experimental and short movies (including my own short story trailers), and a travelogue/documentary (that they used to sell in airports). The logic and language of music is a huge influence on my fiction writing.
